The visit to one of these sites should last about 4 hours.  Call the facility and ask to speak with the administrator, president or executive director of the facility, organization or agency.  DO NOT BE DECEITFUL OR MISLEAD THEM IN ANY WAY!  Explain that the visit is part of a graduate course focusing on leadership and management in gerontology and tell them that you wish to observe a day in their life or the life of one of their senior employees.    If it is a long-term care facility, request the opportunity to speak to some of the residents and staff.  Assure them that you will maintain the privacy of any staff member or resident.  Set up a date and time to come to the facility and ask whom you should see on your arrival.  Be prompt and dress nicely.  If they offer a tour, accept it and use it as a chance to interview residents and staff.   If not, ask them to describe their facility, their mission, goals, achievements, their leadership and management style and challenges.

Talk with the President, Administrator, Executive Director and senior staff about their daily challenges.  Ask them how they chose their field of endeavor.  Ask about their career trajectory. Find out what did they do prior to their current job. Discuss their approach to management.  Ask about how they acquired their leadership and management skills.
