Why create a new organization like SNCC in the early 1960s?  What were they trying to accomplish, and what problems or issues arose?  What would you consider to be two main points in the “Port Huron Statement” (the founding concepts of the Students for a Democratic Society)?  Why choose those two points?

2. Poets, writers, musicians and the problem of anti-Semitism were all noted by Kurlansky as significant in 1968 (and earlier in the 1960s). Using “Howl” as one example, choose one other from either authors, musicians or anti-Semitism and explain their importance for the events you have read about in these chapters.
